Using the SCPI Log Viewer

The SCPI Log Viewer provides the SCPI commands used by the N7649B Test Case Manager software to load the waveform and control the instrument settings for the waveform signal. After creating the waveform with the software, use the SCPI commands to remotely load the waveform file or configure real-time waveforms, setup the instrument, and transmit the signal without using the Test Case Manager software user interface.

The access to the SCPI Log Viewer is through the menu bar, Tools drop-down menu:

When SCPI Log Viewer is clicked, it launches the Log View dialog box that displays the commands:

With each click of the Execute button in the test settings window, SCPI commands are added to the LogView dialog box. This means that the command list, if not cleared after each Execute, is cumulative. But the software does display a separation in the SCPI list to show each Execute action. The separation is the "Begin Execute" and "End Execute" lines shown in the above figure.

Instrument Drop-Down Menu Selection

Use the instrument drop-down menu to select the SCPI commands relevant to the signal: wanted or interferer. For example (using the above figure), if Signal Generator (0:Connected) is for the wanted signal and Signal Generator (1:Connected) is for the interferer, you must select Signal Generator (0:Connected) to view, copy, and clear the commands for the wanted signal.

Again using the above figure as an example, to view, copy, and clear the commands for the interferer signal, select Signal Generator (1:Connected).

If the remaining signal generator or PXB was connected and used, it would have to be selected to view, copy and clear commands..

Copy

Use this button to copy the currently displayed SCPI commands. If there are multiple signals for the test and a different instrument was selected for each signal, after each copy action, you must individually select each instrument from the instrument drop-down menu to display and copy the commands for each signal in the test.

After performing each copy function, use the right mouse click function or standard keyboard keys to paste the commands in the desired application (programming environment or other software).

Clear

Use this button to clear the currently displayed SCPI commands. If there are multiple signals for the test and a different instrument was selected for each signal, after each copy action, you must individually select each instrument from the instrument drop-down menu to display and then clear the commands for each signal in the test.

Minimize

This button minimizes the LogView dialog box. As long as the dialog box is open, even though it may be minimized, the software does not allow any other interaction with the software user interface.

Exit

Use this button to exit the LogView dialog box. As long as the dialog box is open, the software does not allow any further interaction with the software user interface.

To create the SCPI list:

  1. Use the N7649B Test Case Manager user interface to configure the desired test signal(s).

  2. Click the Execute button to create and download the waveform, set the instrument parameters, and create the SCPI commands shown in the LogView dialog box.

  3. Open the LogView dialog box.

  4. If needed, select the instrument from the instrument drop-down menu at the top of the LogView dialog box.

  5. Click the Copy button to copy the currently displayed commands.

  6. Paste the command list into the desired application.

To paste the commands, use the standard keyboard keys or the mouse right click function.

  7. If desired, click the Clear button to clear the currently displayed list of the commands from the LogView dialog box.

  8. If multiple signals were required and different instruments were used for the various signals, repeat this process starting with Step 4.
